NEW BEVERAGE COMPANY, GREEN-GO, MAKES EXPO WEST

    DEBUT WITH ORGANIC, NON-GMO, ZERO-CALORIE

    CACTUS WATER FROM NOPAL PADDLES

NAPA, Calif., Feb. 27, 2018– A new company, Green-Go™, is exhibiting its zero-calorie USDA Organic cactus water derived from the nutrient-rich paddle of the Nopal cactus at Expo West for the first time in booth 7200. The company launched in October.

Green-Go’s organic cactus water also is Non-GMO Project Verified and OU Kosher Certified, said company founder Sarita Lopez. Green-Go’s initial product is Hint of Lemon Organic Cactus Water with a 15-month shelf life and packaged in a 16.9-ounce Tetra-Pak with a suggested retail price of $2.99-$3.99, she said.

“The Nopal paddle is a common vegetable in Mexican cuisine and, in researching the paddle, I found that it is considered to be highly nutritious,” Lopez said. “Studies have tied the Nopal cactus to a number of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties. It’s considered beneficial for skin, which is what interested me in the paddles in the first place. It cleared up my severe eczema when nothing else worked.”

The water, with puree from the Nopal paddle, also has hydration benefits. “Because of Green-Go Cactus Water’s hydration benefits, it is good to drink before or during a workout, and one research study has demonstrated that consuming the cactus extract prior to drinking alcohol mitigated several hangover symptoms,” she said.

Lopez grew up in Napa Valley and spent time in the beverage industry after college, and then headed back home to start an organic farm where she was introduced to “Nopalitos,” the edible paddles from the Nopal cactus, also known as the prickly pear cactus. Lopez, who suffered severe eczema throughout her life, started eating a paddle a day and her skin began showing vast improvement, she said. After extensively researching the nutritional benefits of the paddles, she began selling them at local farmers markets where she discovered her customers were juicing them and telling her stories of how the paddle helped them. Green-Go was born from Lopez’s desire to find an easy way for people to gain the Nopal paddle’s benefits.

    Sarita Lopez

    Founder, Green-Go

Sarita Lopez grew up in Napa Valley steeped in the area’s deep agricultural and culinary roots, which have inspired her throughout her career. Lopez’s first job was in the food industry at a restaurant supply house. After earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nevada-Reno, she moved to Texas and worked as a sales coordinator for a large beverage company. In 2014, she moved back to Napa to help start an organic family farm and began selling the produce at local farmers markets.

Along with locally grown vegetables, Lopez began offering the edible paddles from the Nopal cactus after she saw tremendous improvement in her severe eczema when she began eating them. Lopez’s customers loved the paddles and when she found they were juicing them, she decided that creating a cactus water from the paddles would provide an easy way to introduce the prickly pear cactus paddles to a larger audience. Lopez launched Green-Go Organic Cactus Water in October 2017 to provide an alternative hydrating beverage with zero calories and no sugar.

Lopez is active in her local community. She was elected to the Napa Valley Library Commission and volunteers for the Yountville Library. Lopez also serves as Publicity Chair for the Napa Valley Writers where she has previously served on the board. A talented seamstress whose clothing label is Moda V, Lopez also creates clothing and bags for donation to local nonprofit fundraisers.
