Alter Eco Debuts Clean New Look for Portfolio of Enlightened Indulgences
at Natural Products Expo West 2018

Sustainable Food Maker Puts Next-Level Ingredients at Forefront of Refreshed Design

San Francisco, Calif. – March 5, 2018 – Alter Eco, a chocolate-centric, sustainability-directed snack company that takes healthy indulgence to a whole new level, today unveiled a fresh new brand identity for its portfolio, including Dark Chocolate Coconut Clusters, chocolate bars and truffles. The new look will debut at Natural Products Expo West 2018 booth #1962. Designed to communicate Alter Eco’s promise to deliver an enlightened indulgence – snacks that are best-in-class delicious and use the cleanest, most ethical ingredients possible – the colorful packaging features a stylized new logo and mouthwatering food photography that brings to life incredible flavors using organic, pure and simple ingredients. Hitting shelves nationwide in March 2018, the announcement follows recent news of Alter Eco’s acquisition by NextWorld Evergreen and launch of its new snack line, Dark Chocolate Coconut Clusters.

“We’re in the midst of an exciting brand evolution. Fresh off our acquisition, we’re poised to scale Alter Eco’s presence as the go-to brand for enlightened indulgence in the snacking category across every retail channel,” said Edouard Rollet, co-CEO and co-founder at Alter Eco. “Our new packaging is one of several initiatives we’re implementing this year to achieve such growth, while still remaining true to our founding mission to globally transform food systems through environmental and humanitarian initiatives. We want to reach consumers everywhere who crave a special experience with healthier, delicious dark chocolate options and can’t wait for everyone at Expo West to see and taste our product line.”

Prominently displayed at the top of every front panel, Alter Eco’s new logo features big, bold lowercase letters that can be easily identified on shelf and from afar. The letters are enclosed in a circle that pays tribute to the brand’s unwavering commitment to full-circle sustainability and mission-driven products at every level of the supply chain. The new packaging also showcases an array of familiar colors that mirror Alter Eco’s former packaging to maintain consistency and flavor recognition among fans. Each color is displayed on the top of every package and corresponds with the flavor, while the bottom half features a clean, white background that exhibits important third party certifications, product names and clean ingredient labels. Aimed to entice the senses, every package touts beautiful real food images of what’s inside, ranging from decadent Swiss-made chocolate to sustainably-harvested coconut flakes. Each package also pays homage to the brand’s heritage and fair trade farmer relationships, ingredient transparency and sustainable practices.

Alter Eco’s portfolio of new Dark Chocolate Coconut Clusters, decadent dark chocolate bars and melty truffles are USDA Certified Organic, Fair Trade Certified, Carbon Neutral Certified, Non-GMO Project Verified and Certified Gluten-Free (excluding Deep Dark Salt & Malt Chocolate Bar).

The brand’s products are available in 10,000 retail locations nationwide, including major natural food retailers and grocery stores like Whole Foods Market, Natural Grocers, Wegmans, Sprouts, Kroger and Publix. Pillars of Sustainability: Alter Eco works with small producers in the Global South to directly benefit co-ops and farmers, while bringing delectable and healthy foods to the masses. As one of the first registered Public Benefit Corporations and a top-ranking B Corporation, Alter Eco operates on four pillars: sourcing using Fair Trade principles, producing only organic and non-GMO foods, creating minimal waste by working towards 100 percent compostable packaging and in-setting carbon emissions by means of large-scale reforestation programs in the cooperatives that produce its crops. As part of its effort to become a carbon negative company, Alter Eco works in tandem with PUR Projet, a reforestation program started by Alter Eco France founder, Tristan Lecomte, to plant trees and offset the amount of CO2 produced.

Founder Story: Alter Eco co-founders, Tristan Lecomte of France, Mathieu Senard and Edouard Rollet of the United States and Ilse Keijzer of Australia, were trained in business but remain committed activists at heart. Prior to starting Alter Eco more than a decade ago, they experienced first-hand both profit-driven multinationals and on-the-ground NGOs.
